In order to create the projections in the Disneyland park for this project, we first had to create a series of images in studio of our characters. We made two types of images — heads and full bodies. These are the bodies. The girl bodies are reminiscent of the various animatronics and dolls on rides such as Snow White’s Scary Adventures and It’s a Small World. Mickey takes his inspiration from the concept of “Hidden Mickeys” around the park. Much like a hidden Mickey, when we projected our images into the landscape of Disneyland, almost nobody saw them. They hid in plain sight.
< Columnists In Residence
Our columnists are free to write and publish without editorial oversight from Open Space or SFMOMA. The program, which grants lifelong access to our site, is, so far as we know, a unique publishing experiment among major art institutions.
