Le sacre du printemps (reconstructed)

The Joffrey Ballet in Le sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring)

Choreography : Vaslav Nijinsky

Music: Igor Stravinsky

There are days that I need to remember that patience is a virtue. Times when I stay still and listen, giving the world a chance to wash over me with a pandora’s box of beauty. Today I was reminded by the volatile 1913 premier of Le sacre du printemps that patience is key for both the audience and cultural producers.

  • Thanks Mac and Suzanne! sorry for the late reply! Mac, I love Pina Bausch’s version and will check out Paul Taylor’s and the Rainer works.

  • I love it. A really nice way to slow down, watch, and listen at the end of my work-day. Thank you

One usually encounters “Rite” in the concert hall and it is easy to forget what superb music it is for dancing. Check out Pina Bausch’s version in “Pina,” Wim Wenders tribute to her currently playing in San Francisco (in 3D!). Paul Taylor and Yvonne Rainer have also set this Stravinsky masterwork.

    Mac
