Backstage: My Barbarian

All summer long, as part of the exhibition Stage Presence, we’re hosting LIVE performances in a specially commissioned fourth-floor performance space created by Tucker Nichols. Totally awesome artist lineup, and we’re posting rehearsal pix plus performance videos every week.

The room is all set for Malik Gaines, Jade Gordon, and Alexandro Segade of My Barbarian’s Broke People’s Baroque Peoples’ Theater — come see them tonight in the performance gallery!

My Barbarian animates theatrical styles from baroque spectacle to camp drag to riff on the absurdities of the American financial crisis. In a performance of wastefulness, trashiness, and class warfare, the characters confront their internal conflicts over patronage, money, artistic quality, and other myths.

We’ll have video next week! More info. Follow the series.

Check out this week’s performance: Thursday, August 16, 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, August 18 and 19, 3 p.m. Free with museum admission.
