Joseph del Pesco

As founding director of the Kadist Art Foundation‘s venue in San Francisco (opened in 2010), del Pesco established a fast-paced program of weekly events that identified art as a point-of-departure to talk about global social issues. Working with a network of guest curators and in partnership with area museums, del Pesco positioned Kadist as key voice in contemporary art in San Francisco. While at Kadist he prototyped the first residency for international art magazines, curated events and exhibitions with leading artists, and helped the foundation acquire dozens of artworks.

Prior to Kadist he developed a year-long experimental school-without-walls called the Pickpocket Almanack with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. From 2007 to 2009 he was adjunct curator at Artists Space in New York. In 2006 he was a curatorial fellow at the Banff Centre, Canada (returning in 2009 to lead a month-long residency) and in 2008 he traveled to Italy for a residency with the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Torino, Italy). Prior to 2006 he worked as Assistant Curator at the Art Museum at UC Davis.

Along side these appointments, del Pesco has organized dozens of independent events, lectures, partnerships, and publishing projects at venues like the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, The Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, the Headlands Center for the Arts, The San Francisco Art Institute, the Rooseum (Malmö, Sweden), Articule (Montréal, Canada), the Pacific Northwest College of Art (Portland), The Renaissance Society (Chicago), Temple Contemporary (Philadelphia), the Zabludowicz Collection (London), and REDCAT (Los Angeles).
