Receipt of Delivery: Violations - Dennis Oppenheim

Receipt of Delivery is a weekly series featuring Bay Area exhibition mailers selected from the SFMOMA Research Library’s collection of artists’ ephemera.

Dennis Oppenheim (1938–2011), Violations, 1971–72; card, offset lithography; 6 3/4 x 10 in. (17.15 x 25.4 cm). Exhibition consisted of a mailer designed by Tom Marioni and sent by his Museum of Conceptual Art, San Francisco, December 31, 1971. The stolen hubcaps were later shown as a floor installation with a video at Sonnabend Gallery, New York.

  • Dennis, this one is a lot of fun.
    bold, daring, playful
How are these actual actions more ‘conceptual’
than synthetic pigment, and polymer emulsion
    on a woven canvas quadrilateral?
    Nice to see this.
