5 Questions: SECA 2010 Award Winner Mauricio Ancalmo

Five questions to SFMOMA artists, staff, or guests. Mauricio Ancalmo is a winner of the 2010 SECA Art Award. His work is on view in the fifth-floor galleries through April 3.

Do you collect anything?

Everything except collectibles.

If you could steal any artwork in the world to have up in your home, what would it be?

The caves of Lascaux.

Who was the last person to leave you a voicemail?

Bob Hope (that’s the refrigerator repair guy, not the actor).

Have you ever run out of money?

Does a bear shit in the woods? Is a frog’s ass watertight?? Does a buzzard’s ass pucker in a power dive??? Is the pope Catholic????

What’s your favorite tool?

A pencil. Pretty obvious, isn’t it?

What should I ask you?

Who’s Ned Nederlander?

Mauricio Ancalmo’s film-based installation is on view as part of the 2010 SECA Art Award exhibition. He also will have a screening program at the museum-wide Now Playing event on March 15. (And yes, I know there are six questions above — couldn’t resist).
